Phyllis Jean Jeffers, 87, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Cloverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville. She was born on July 9, 1935, in Terre Haute, to Philip M. Frew, Sr. and Verna E. (Russell) Frew. She married Jack E. Jeffers on August 4, 1957.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Debbie Sylvain and husband Jeff of Plainfield, Pam Zwissler and husband Ben of Columbus, Alan Jeffers and wife Nicole of Brazil, Connie Salzlein and husband Ken of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Iain McNair, Aaron Zwissler and wife Julie, Nathan Zwissler, Daniel Zwissler, Asieavae Jeffers, Avalee Jeffers, James Zwissler and wife Lisa, Patrick Williams and Melanie Payne; and great-grandchildren, Connor, Allie, Jake, Emma, and Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Shane Joseph McNair; and ten siblings.

Phyllis was a 1953 graduate of Garfield High School. She worked as a secretary for the Teamsters, worked at Topps on Wabash Avenue, was a volunteer for the Pink Ladies at Clay County Hospital in the 80s, and retired as a physical therapy aide from Independence Rehab. Phyllis was a long-time member of Union Christian Church.

In her spare time, Phyllis loved to garden and could often be found tending to her flowers. She was an excellent cook and baker. Her fruit pies and cobblers were among some of her family’s favorite desserts. No matter how busy she was, her house was immaculate and her hard wood floors were always shining. Most of all, Phyllis loved her family. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended her granddaughters’ sporting events faithfully, doted on her grandsons during their annual summer visits, and cherished every moment she spent with her family. She will be truly missed.

Visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home, with Pastor Mark Grayless officiating. Phyllis will be laid to rest next to her husband in Roselawn Memorial Park’s Chapel of Memories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America at https://www.dementiasociety.org/donate .
