Ed Utterback, age 90 of Terre Haute, went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 24, 2023. He was born in Terre Haute, IN on June 1, 1932, to Lucille Blanchard Utterback and Edgar S. Utterback, Sr.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 41 years, Phyllis E. Laybold Utterback, daughter, Rita E. Utterback, and siblings Betty Slinker, Trueman Utterback, and Christine Antrim.

Ed is survived by wife of 25 years, Sharron K. Utterback, sons, David Utterback (Jeanine), Paul Utterback (Staci), and daughter Linda Deckert (Mike). Also surviving include grandchildren, Caleb Utterback (Brooke), Eliot Utterback (Stephanie), Lucy Utterback, Lucas Utterback, Nick Utterback (Shelby), Makenzie Utterback, Gretchen Utterback, Macy Deckert, and Ben Deckert. Ed had several great-grandchildren including: Emelynn and Harrison Utterback, Josie and Jemma Utterback, Nicolai Piloni, and Cullison Utterback.

Ed’s step-children included: Doug Elliott (Shelly), Kelli Kellogg (Jay),

also step-grandchildren, Brandi Avila (Eric), Austin Brewer (Brittani), and Austin Kellogg, and step-great-grandchildren, Braylynn Brown, Emerson, E. J., and Briggs Avila, and Sutton Brewer.

Ed graduated from Otter Creek High School in 1950. He then graduated from Rose Polytechnic Institute (Rose Hulman) in 1954, and later earned his MBA from Indiana State University in 1987.

Ed was a Golden Age Member of Terre Haute First Baptist Church where he served over the years as Deacon Chairman, Board of Christian Education Chairman, Trustee Chairman, and various other committees. He also taught Sunday School, was a founding member of the Double Ring Sunday School class, was an usher, was a member of the Building Committee, and was a member of the Pulpit Committee.

Ed’s professional career began with Allis-Chalmers Mfg. Co. in 1954. He then worked for Utterback Heating, Sheet Metal, and Air Conditioning. Ed was Chief Engineer at Columbia House Division of CBS from 1961-1993. Ed was a life member of the AIIE. Ed was a patent holder for packaging he developed for Columbia House. He was a licensed real estate broker, and a licensed home inspector. In his later years, Ed spent many hours volunteering at Union Hospital.

Ed enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling, sheet metal working, and was known for his photography. Colorado was his favorite vacation destination. Ed was a Boy Scout leader (Troop 24) and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was also a member of the local MADD chapter.

Those who knew Ed will remember him for his generosity, his compassion, his love of God, and his contagious smile.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at First Baptist Church, 4701 Poplar Street. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the church.
