Carole Mayrose

August 23, 1941  -  January 31, 2023

Carole Jane Mayrose, 81, passed away January 31, 2023 at Clark Memorial Hospital. Carole was born to the late Carl K. and Elsie Jane (Rhode) Smith on August 23, 1941 in Williamsburg, Indiana.

Carole graduated from Pine Village High School in 1959. On June 12, 1965, Carole married the love of her life, James Mayrose. Carole attended Indiana State University where she obtained her Bachelors and Masters in Social Studies and Earth Science. After graduation, Carole worked for the Lake County Community School Corporation for five years before moving to Clay County where she taught for Clay Community Schools over 20 years. During her teaching career she was awarded the Indiana High School Outstanding Geography Teacher. Carole was a founding member of the Clay City REIN Center Community Library. In her free time, Carole enjoyed cross stitch, reading, and traveling. She and her husband Jim traveled to 49 states, and multiple countries.

Carole is preceded in death by her parents, as well as a daughter, Melinda Louise Mayrose.

Carole is survived by her husband, James “Jim” Mayrose, a daughter, Michelle Lynn Mayrose (Robert Witcher), a son, Edward Wayne Mayrose (Amy), grandchildren, Cody Mayrose (Alex), Kyle Mayrose (Kelly Nelson), Dana Glass (Rodney), and Brody Mayrose, great grandchildren, Cade Mayrose and Brayden Glass, two brothers, Dave Smith of Tucson, Arizona, and Phillip Smith of Twin Falls, Idaho, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 18th from 2-5 P.M. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East 8th Street in Clay City.
