Billy 'Bill" D. Caldwell

Billy “Bill” Dean Caldwell, 92, of Avon, Indiana, passed away Friday, March 10, 2023. He was born in Lebanon, Indiana, on December 4, 1930, a son of the late Richard Dean and Genevieve Verdi (Clifton) Caldwell.

He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Martin on October 31, 1952, in Maryland after meeting at a St. Patrick’s Day church dance the same year.

After graduating from Lebanon High School, Bill served his country in the Navy. He was stationed aboard the USS Hale and USS Peterson. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, Bill graduated from Indiana Business College. He worked as an accountant for several companies throughout the years and retired in 1995 as partner and accountant of Jesse’s Family Market. Bill became a member of Hazelrigg Masonic Lodge #200 in 1952 and the Scottish Rite in 1954. He was also a member of the American Legion IN Post 0201 Advance, and the Brownsburg Lions Club. His interest extended to the Murat Shrine, Gatling Gun Club and El ‘Ameen Nabeel.

Upon retirement, Bill and his wife moved to Heritage Lake where he became lovingly known as the “whistling man” due to his constant whistling of tunes while working around the yard.

Bill is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Ann Caldwell; daughter, Debbie (Vince) Caldwell-Meunier of Beech Grove; two grandchildren, Mickayla Caldwell Meunier and Robert (Lisa) Caldwell Meunier; and great grandson, Ezra Meunier. 

In addition to his parents, a sister, Mary Barbara Amend preceded Bill in death.

It is the wishes of the family that no services will be held. Porter and Hunt Funeral Home and Crematory, 315 West Main Street in Jamestown, Indiana has been entrusted with his funeral arrangements.

Memorials may be directed in Bill’s name to Shriners Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 1525, Ranson, West Virginia 25438.
