Robert Max Howard

Robert Max Howard, 88, a Newtown native, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023, in Virginia.

He was born Oct. 17, 1934, at Crawfordsville, son of the late Chester Warren and LaVera (Shultz) Howard.

He graduated from Richland Township High School and Indiana State University.

Mr. Howard was a U. S. Army veteran, and was employed by the Office of Personnel Management in Washington, D.C. prior to retirement.

On Jan. 27, 1968, he married the former Jacklyn Joyce Sparling, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Aimee Taylor and husband Christopher of Ashburn, and Jenny Howard of Staunton; sister Helen Roberts and husband Russell of Lebanon; sisters-in-law Jean Howard of Newtown and Shirley Howard of Springfield, Illinois; two granddaughters, Ellen Taylor and Lillian Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, William Howard, Warren Howard and his wife Beverly, Samuel Howard and his wife Gloria, and John Howard; and sister Irene Mintern and her husband Pete.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 2 at Bear Funeral Home, Churchville, Virginia, with Pastor Lester Kennedy officiating.
