Marvin Elmer Clark

Marvin E. Clark, age 94, of Greencastle, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at his residence, Autumn Glen Senior Living Center in Greencastle.

Marvin was a devoted Christian husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born February 24, 1929 in Greencastle, the oldest son of Frank and Elva (VanVactor) Clark. He married Lois York on April 10, 1951. Lois preceded him in death in November of 2021. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Claudia Clark, in August of 2022.

Others preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Rosemary Kendall, and brothers, Gary, Robert, Roland, David and Larry Clark.

Survivors include sisters Virginia Cook, and Susan (Steve) Hurst of Greencastle. brothers, James (Anna) Clark and Jerry (Linda) Clark of Greencastle, son, Alan (Janice) Clark, of North Vernon, granddaughters, Amanda (Topher) Morris and Candace (Peter) Gaunt and great-grandchildren, Mary Cate and Cohen Morris, and Evelyn and Oliver Gaunt, of Indianapolis.

Marvin was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greencastle for more than 70 years where he was a member of the choir and men’s quartet for many of those years: hymn singing was one of his greatest loves in life. He was employed for 35 years with Detroit Diesel-Allison Engine Corporation in Indianapolis. After retiring from there, he worked for a number of years in maintenance for Alpha Phi sorority at DePauw University.

In retirement, he and Lois enjoyed traveling, visiting a large part of the United States including Hawaii, New York City, Washington D.C. and the Pacific Northwest. For many years, he kept large vegetable and flower gardens, enjoyed picking berries and hunting mushrooms, and took up cooking and baking (his specialty being his Cinnamon Rolls). He was a dedicated walker – getting in a three-mile walk every day until late in life, when he was still getting in at least a half-mile per day.

A graveside services with military honors are planned for 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the Forest Hill Cemetery
