Erma Mae Pugh

AUGUST 23, 1930 – SEPTEMBER 18, 2021

Erma Mae Pugh, 91, of Terre Haute, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Southwood Nursing Home. She was born on August 23, 1930, in Clay County, to Ernest Peter and Dora Mae (Kirchner) Steuerwald. She married Walter “Dunk” Pugh on November 23, 1955.

Erma is preceded in death by her parents: her husband; siblings, Wayne Steuerwald, Audrey Coffey, Winston Steuerwald, Rosemary Russell, Earl Steuerwald, and Jean Riggs; and a nephew, Robert “Bob” Steuerwald.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

Erma grew up in Art where she attended elementary school and Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Cory High School and immediately went to work for Commercial Solvents. When a new opportunity arose, she took a chance and became a founder at Bemis where she worked until her retirement.

Erma and Dunk loved to travel and see the world, going on many trips out West and through Mexico, including Mexico City. They enjoyed fishing together. Erma and Dunk were avid supporters of ISU Athletics and the many other activities that the university offered to the community. She loved going out to eat. Her favorite foods were chicken livers and drumsticks. She had quite the sweet tooth and especially enjoyed candy. Erma loved her cats and little dogs. She was always well put together, her hair was never out of place, her nails were always polished, and she always wore a pair of earrings. She made friends out of coworkers, neighbors, and complete strangers. She is currently beaming with happiness now that she has reunited with Dunk in Heaven.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 23 at Roselawn Funeral Home with visitation taking place from noon until the time of services. Erma will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Reach Veterans Services, 1400 Hulman Street, Terre Haute, IN 47802 or to Special Olympics Indiana, 6200 Technology Center Drive, Suite 105, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
