Pablo Castaneda

September 24, 1954 - October 2, 2021

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the loss of Paulino "Pablo" Carranza Castaneda, of Brazil, IN on Oct. 2, 2021. He passed at the age of 67 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital with family by his side.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Christina Gibson Castaneda, daughter Evette Castaneda of Milwaukee, WI, sons Gregory Castaneda and Christopher Castaneda of Brazil, grandson Isaac Castaneda, brother Jaime Carranza, sisters Laura Carranza and Clara Carranza, and a large extended family in Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his mother Soledad Castaneda Limones, father Paulino Carranza Fraire, and infant son Christopher.

Paul was born in Santa Clara, Durango, Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. as a young man. In 1976, he met his wife and partner in life, Christina, in Ruskin, FL and returned with her to Brazil, IN to begin their life and write the chapters that would become their story.

Paul was a skilled tradesman, beginning his career in 1977 at Deakins Metal Spinning in Brazil. There he learned his craft from the ground up and honed the skills he would use throughout his 44 year career. In 2004, he began working in Paris, IL at AeroGen-TEK, where he continued until the time of his death. His work was primarily in the aerospace industry, creating components for commercial and military aircraft. A highlight of his career was having his work included in the historic 2020 SpaceX Dragon capsule launch that transported astronauts to the International Space Station.

Paul had a love for motorsports, particularly drag racing and Mopar muscle cars. He always seemed to have a project car in progress, and many got to know him through his many hunts for rare parts, willingness to help a friend in their garage, or tendency to strike up a conversation with anyone who shared his love for loud, fast cars.

He loved good food (particularly Christina's cooking and authentic Mexican), watching an exciting soccer match, and enjoying a Modelo Negra after a long week. He was known for his sarcastic humor, a clever comeback, and his mischievous nature in pulling off a good prank. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and loved ones.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 4 until 7:00pm at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice in Paul’s memory.
