August Joseph DeLorme

August Joseph “Joe” DeLorme, 87, of Clay City, Indiana, passed away following a short stay at Cloverleaf Nursing Home on November 1, 2021.

Joe was born on January 19, 1934, in Terre Haute, Indiana the son of August and Luna Irene (VanArsdall) Delorme. He graduated from Garfield High School with the class of 1951. He then attended Indiana State University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He worked, in accounting, for various organizations over the years. Most recently he worked for Black Lumber, in Sullivan. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church where he had previously served as a deacon.

In his younger years, Joe enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball, Softball, and football. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and a Chicago Bears Football fan. He also enjoyed playing cards, drinking coffee, and getting together with family.

He married Ann Marie Sinders on December 27, 1959, she survives. He is also survived by his 3 children: Doug DeLorme and wife Sandy of Franklin, Indiana, Denise Turner and husband Brian of Brazil, and Vicki Benigni and husband Dennis of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren: Aimee Bemis (Thomas), Chris DeLorme, Christi Lancaster (Nick), Trisha Turner, Steven White (Samantha), and Greg White; great-grandchildren: Belle Bemis, Blaine Bemis, Rose White, and Andrew White; a sister Luna Helen Hunter; as well as many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents August and Luna Delorme; a brother-in-law Robert Hunter.

Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. Eighth Street Clay City, Indiana 47841 on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 11am until 1pm. Services will follow at 1:00 with Pastor Ray Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Sink Cemetery.
