Gary L. Austin, 63, of Mellott passed from this life at noon Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, in his home, surrounded by family, following a courageous battle with leukemia.

He was born Aug. 15, 1958, at Crawfordsville, to the late Stanley W. Austin, and survived by his mother Susie E. (Johnson) Austin, who resides in Crawfordsville. Gary married Vickie S. Stonecipher on July 22, 1978, at Mellott. She survives.

 

Gary was a 1976 graduate of Fountain Central High School and a member of Mellott Community Bible Church. For 31 years, Gary was a dedicated fuel delivery driver beginning with Farm Bureau Co-op and continuing with Ceres Solutions until his health failed in January 2019. He was devoted to his customers who he considered as friends. He served multiple generations of farmers, businesses and homeowners. If someone had a fuel need, Gary would accommodate them. He would often enjoy coffee, lunch or pie at a customer’s dinner table.

Surviving, along with his wife Vickie and his mother Susie, are two sons, Jason L. Austin of Mellott and Matt C. (Jamie) Austin of rural Veedersburg; daughter Kristen N. (Dillon) Scott of rural Wingate; sister Marge (Mike) Bowman of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Marvin “Bub” (Marianne) Austin of Mellott and Jerry (Julie) Austin of Chicago; three grandchildren, Avery and Gentry Austin and Isabella Scott; and mother-in-law Alice Stonecipher of Hillsboro.

He was preceded in death by his father Stanley and father-in-law Gordon Stonecipher.

Visitation hours are 4-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the funeral home, with his brother, Pastor Jerry Austin and Pastor Gary Johnson, officiating. Graveside services/interment will follow in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
