Fred Steuerwald

Fred Warren Steuerwald (78) of Clay City passed away on December 26, 2021 at home with his family by his side. He was born on April 14, 1943 in Clay county, Indiana to Harvey Steuerwald and Freida Jackson Steuerwald. Fred graduated from Clay City High School in 1961. He was a farmer all of his life. He was married to Janice Wilkes Steuerwald on February 22, 1964. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he had formerly served as trustee and treasurer. He was a member of Clay City Masonic Lodge No. 562.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Christopher Steuerwald; a sister, Anita Collenbaugh; a sister-in-law, Judy Duling; and two nephews, Richard Duling and James Joe Wilkes.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice Wilkes Steuerwald; a son, Timothy Steuerwald (Susan) of Clay City; two granddaughters, Krysten McDaniel (Josh) of Jasonville IN and Jayci Steuerwald of Clay City; a brother, Victor Steuerwald (Janice) of Terre Haute, IN; two brothers-in-law Don Collenbaugh of Worthington, IN and James Wilkes (Rita) of Hanover, IN and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, December 31st at 11 AM at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City with Pastor Brian Holt officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, December 30th, from 4:30 to 8 P.M. and one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. Burial will be at Sink Cemetery in Clay City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or New Hope Baptist Church.
