Mary Louise Turner, 69, of Seelyville, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born on May 5, 1952, in Dayton, Ohio, and adopted by Donald M. and Marina R. (Meyer) Garry. She married Robert Turner on September 19, 1981.

Mary Louise is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years and partner of 45 years, Robert Turner of Seelyville; sister, Donna Rose Von Kannon of Macomb, IL; niece, Christina Homan and husband, Sean of Macomb; nephews, James Von Kannon and wife Leah of Galesburg, IL, David Von Kannon and wife Shari of Clarksville, TN, Donald Von Kannon and wife Debbie of Omaha, NE, John Von Kannon and wife Mary of Galesburg, and Michael Von Kannon and wife Erin of Bushnell, IL; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews; and last, but definitely not least, her beloved black Cocker Spaniel, Dotty.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary Louise graduated from Schulte High School in 1970 and then from Harrold Beauty Academy. She worked as a beautician for several years at Edie Adams Cut and Curl. She then went to work at Indiana State University, first for the bookstore and then for the Life Sciences Department where she was the Stores Keeper and took care of the many snakes that were housed in the department. She later worked at Rural King and for various retail and craft stores around the Wabash Valley. Mary Louise also worked at the polls during early voting. Retiring in 2010, she was able to focus on her passion, cross-stitching. Blessed with the gift of needle art, Mary Louise was a cross-stitching aficionado and even had her own website domain.

In her younger years, she was an avid equestrian and loved to be around her horses. She helped Robert restore his ’49 Jeepster and the two belonged to the Antique and Classic Car Club. She learned how to target shoot and excelled at it. Mary Louise was fearless and fun. She enjoyed travelling and going to flea markets and the Covered Bridge Festival. She had a compassionate heart for animals, especially black Cocker Spaniels. She would rescue senior Cocker Spaniels and donate to Cocker Spaniel Rescues religiously.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Lilly officiating. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mattoxwood.com
