Sharon Lee Strassler

JULY 27, 1938 – NOVEMBER 4, 2022

Sharon was born on July 27th, 1938 in Terre Haute, IN to Wayne and Mary McIntosh. She died on November 4th, 2022 due to injuries she sustained in a fall in her home.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; brother Larry; her first husband Jon Fox; and daughter Lisa Fox.

Sharon was a 1956 graduate of Garfield High School, where she was very active in sports, social and academic clubs. Later in life, she was a member of the Women’s Department Club, Newcomer’s Club and was a long-time member of the Terre Haute Bridge Club. She was a true social butterfly with a close-knit group of girlfriends she continued to get together with for lunch once a month to reminisce, catch up on their families, and sometimes commiserate, right up until her passing. She cherished the opportunity to stay connected to friends and loved ones.

She was a feisty perfectionist with an intense competitive streak. An avid reader, she was also a very creative, artistic soul who loved to paint, draw, sew, and crochet. But it was her status as a Life Master Bridge player that enabled her to fulfill her passion for travel, as she was able to compete in bridge tournaments in and out of the US. In addition to traveling, she loved to bake, shop, dance, shop, swim, shop, and was a classic movie enthusiast! She was a homemaker most of her life and kept herself busy with creative hobbies and watching her children and grandchildren in their various activities. Even after experiencing more than her fair share of heartbreak and loss, she remained a pillar of strength for many.

Sadly, a gradual loss of vision, over a 30 year period, made it increasingly impossible to do many of the things she dearly loved. However, she was persistent and determined to adapt to her limitations. Even as she was nearing total blindness, she continued to enjoy countless novels using audio books. She committed many recipes to memory so that she could still bake our favorite treats and she never stopped dancing, playing giant scrabble, or being very competitive at various card games. She was happier when winning!

Sharon is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 45 years, Max Strassler; son, Jonathan Fox; daughter, Mary Dowell (John); step-sons Bill (Glenda), David, and Ross Strassler;as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She passed away peacefully, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by loved ones.

A Memorial Visitation will be held at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home on Friday, November 11th, 2022, from 3-7pm.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Indiana Blind Children’s Foundation located on 7725 N. College Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46240 and at https://indianabcf.org/index.php/donate.
