William Kirk Hole

William Kirk Hole passed away at his home in Crawfordsville on Nov. 8, 2022, after a long and brave battle with Lewy Body Disease.

He was born Sept. 16, 1938, at Crawfordsville, to Myrl and Lester Hole. Bill was raised on the family farm in the Youngs Chapel area. He loved fishing, hunting and trapping; as well as pitching horseshoes, shooting pool and ice skating on the family pond. And of course, he loved eating ice cream! Farming was his passion, and he was dedicated to the Allis Chalmers tractor line long after they ceased production.

The farm was a family affair as he raised hogs, cattle and grain. He always had a large garden. One year, due to an abundant crop of sweet corn, he sold the extra to Gooding’s Produce Stand. That marked the beginning of Hole’s Sweet Corn. Many will likely remember the sight of his old red truck delivering sweet corn to Gooding’s. He enjoyed laughing and visiting with all the people there. Family members have continued the produce business.

Bill married Alma Newby on March 5, 1960. For 62 years they partnered together in the same home with farming, church, friends and all things in common. Alma survives. Bill was the loving father to three children, Greg Hole, Crawfordsville, David (Tammy) Hole, Punta Gorda, Florida, and Lynn (Kevin) Gillenwater, Crawfordsville.

He was treasured by four grandchildren, Christin Keirn, Lake Station, Evyn (Jessica) Hole, Rosedale, Jordan (Paige) Gillenwater, Crawfordsville, and Brendan (fiancée Grace) Gillenwater, Dallas, Texas. He was entertained by 10 great-grandchildren, Madison Fulk, Mareena, Elijah, Karina, Lydia, Emelia, Karleigh and Morgan Hole and Ellie and Kate Keirn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Esther Krukewitt.

The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13 at the Memorial Hall of the Darlington Christian Church. A Celebration of Bill’s life will begin at 4 p.m. Friends are asked to come prepared to share memories, funny stories or ways their lives were impacted by Bill. If you wish to share (but do not want to read publicly), feel free to bring your thoughts in written form. The family would like to compile a book of these precious memories.

William chose cremation. His remains will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in Darlington at a later date. The family wishes to thank SouthernCare Hospice and Burkhart Funeral Home for their assistance and support.
