Stephen David Mackenzie

Stephen David Mackenzie, 74, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away at his home, on December 10, 2022, following a battle with cancer.

 

Steve was born on March 21, 1948, in Pheonix, Arizona the son of Warren and Rhea (Huber) McKenzie. Steve graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1966. He served his country in the United States Navy, in Vietnam, from 1967 until being honorably discharged in 1971. After returning home, Steve attended Indiana State University where he graduated with a major in Industrial Management Supervision and a dual minor in Art and Political Science. Steve worked at various tool and die shops around the area however, most of his career was spent between Amax Coal and Allison’s Transmission. While at Amax Steve served as President of the local 1216, he served as the state legislators’ lobbyist for 4 years, he served on the safety council with local 1216, and was the Chairman of the Overseer’s. More recently he worked for the City of Brazil as the Building Inspector. At the age of 15 Steve was taught architectural design by his uncle Don Huber. Steve has worked as a draftsman and architect throughout his adult life working on various residential and commercial designs.

 

Steve stayed active in his personal life as well. He was a member of the American Legion Post 2 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1127. Steve served as an adjutant and director of the American Legion Riders for 3 years and on their board of trustees for 6 years. He was also a member of the Cloven Hooves Motorcycle Club and the Old Guys Car Club. Steve loved artwork and was very talented in drawing, painting, air brush, pen and ink, watercolor, and acrylic. He enjoyed restoring, designing, and creating vehicles and motorcycles. He was talented at playing billiards and has won several state and national awards.

 

He met his wife Mary Ann Haggart nearly 59 years ago and they have been married for 43 years on October 20, 1979.

 

Steve was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Rhea McKenzie.

 

Steve is survived by his wife Mary Ann Mackenzie; three children: Cameron A. Mackenzie (Susie Weaver), Colin A. Mackenzie (Nova), and Cara A. Mackenzie (Ben Garlit); grandchildren: Cyran A. Mackenzie, Carter A. Mackenzie, Conner A. Mackenzie, and Coel A. Mackenzie Smith.

 

Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel on December 18, 2022, from noon until 3 PM. Services will be held at the funeral home at 3:00 PM with burial to follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
