Kathryn “Kate” E. Cox Girton, 81, passed away December 16, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Kate was born to the late Donald Ona and Crystal Jane (Kemper) Berry on October 10, 1941 in Gary, Indiana.

On June 7, 1959 Kate married her husband, Roy Thomas “Tom” Cox who preceded her in death in 1994. Kate worked for Columbian Enameling and was then a telephone operator in clay county from 1967-1972. She then went to work at Fleetwood Mobile Homes until 1976. She then became a stay-at-home mom. After her three children began attending school, Kate started working at St. Vincent Clay Hospital where she worked for over 16 years. Kate never met a stranger, she could talk to anyone, her family and friends often referred to her as “Crazy Kate”. Kate was a very dedicated Christian who loved to play bingo and in her free time, she enjoyed crocheting and cross stitch. In her younger days she loved gardening and bowling. She was a very strong, determined, and stubborn woman who overcame many challenges throughout her life.

Kate is preceded in death by parents, her husband Tom, as well as her second husband David C. Girton, five siblings, Dell Pursell, Nancy Jo. McCooley, Sherman Berry, Ray Berry, and Leslie “Pete” Berry.

Kate is survived by her children, K.C. Wright (Tony), Shawn Cox (Tisha), and Don Cox (Angela), grandchildren, Chris Haase (Ariel), Haley Rigdon (Chris), Ashley Wright, Wesley Cox, Edwin Cox, Levi Hopkins, Elijah Cox, Nathan Summers, and Ava Cox, great grandchildren, Crisda Haase, Camirin Haase, Gavin Helwig, and Nora Rigdon. As well as one sister, Ona Cuthbertson.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 21st from 12 – 2 P.M. at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Avenue in Brazil. A funeral service will begin at 2 P.M. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
