John Staley

John William Staley, 82, passed away surrounded by his family on December 21, 2022 at his residence in Coal City. John was born to the late Ernest and Verta (Harbaugh) Staley on June 25, 1940 in Clay County.

John graduated from Clay City High School in 1958. After graduation John farmed with his dad and brother for several years. On October 29, 1960, John married the love of his life, Nancy Dalton. He worked at Columbia Records for around 10 years before going to work for Richard Thatcher Trucking where he eventually retired from. John enjoyed restoring tractors and collecting Farmall tractors, both full size and toy tractors. John enjoyed camping, spending time outdoors, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.

John is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Edward Staley, and a son, Perry Jay “P.J.” Staley.

John is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Nancy Staley, three children, Terri Metz (Scott), James “Jim” Staley (Randi), and Betsy Sebastian (Kevin), grandchildren, Jeff Metz (Stacey), Justin Metz, Justin Staley (Emily), Jordan Staley (Brittanie), Brianna Evans (Zach), John “Buddy” Sebade (Jayda), Cody Sebade, Katie Boone, Dalton Sebastian, eight great grandchildren, one sister, Sue Grafe (John), as well as several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 28th from 11 – 1 at Clay City Church of Christ, 31 West County Road 650 South in Clay City. A funeral service will begin at 1 P.M. officiated by Scott Wiley. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
