Virginia Rose Daily Childress, Greencastle, Indiana, passed away on January 7, 2023 at Asbury Towers Hospice.

She was born January 2, 1925 in Ellettsville, Indiana, to John Earl Daily and Lena Mae King Daily. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1942. Virginia and Austin Bruce Childress were united in marriage on February 14, 1945. They were married 54 years until his death, May 4, 1999.

Virginia was employed for 25 years in the Department of Public Instruction, Migrant Workers’ Division in Indianapolis and Indiana University Accounting Department in Bloomington, Indiana.

Virginia was known as Jinny by family and friends. She was a member of the Spencer United Methodist Church and attended Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church in Greencastle. She was a member of the Tuesday Reading Club and Progress History, a Spencer Girl Scout Leader, Putnam County Food Pantry volunteer and Putnam County Library volunteer. She was a talented seamstress and also crafted appliqued quilts. In retirement, Jinny made hundreds of pressed flower greeting cards which were shared with family and friends.

Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria Childress Townsend (Don, Spencer) and Lisa Childress Larkin (Greg, Indianapolis), grandchildren Alaine Marisa Townsend and Gregory Nicholas Larkin, granddaughter-in-law Drhea Townsend Emberton (Aaron Townsend, dec.), great grandchildren Aaron Austin James Townsend and Gregory Nash Larkin. In addition her beloved caregiver Marty Rossman.

Jinny was preceded in death by her husband, her sisters Mary Lou Abrams and Jean Earley, her brother John King Daily, an infant sister Martha Ellen Daily and grandson Aaron Don Townsend.

Memorial may be directed to the Spencer United Methodist Church.

Cremation will be followed by private interment at the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, Indiana. Per Jinny’s wishes, services will be held privately. Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
