Raymond "Buddy" Day II

April 1, 1959  -  February 4, 2023

Raymond “Buddy” Day, II, 63 of Carbon, passed away February 4, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born April 1, 1959, which was quite fitting for a man who loved to tease and prank those he loved. He was the son of Raymond “Bud” Day and Wanda Beckner Day. He went to Brazil High School.

As a young man, he worked at the movie theater and later started his own business, Day’s Floor Care. He also worked in maintenance for the Clay Community Schools at Van Buren and Forest Park and for the Clay County Hospital. Another job he really enjoyed was security for the Clay County Parks Department. He had worked at the I-70 Rest Park and helped many homeless people and weary travelers. He last worked at the Brazil Public Library, he was glad to keep the walks clean and maybe play a joke on the staff. Buddy was a man who really liked people, never meeting a stranger and was willing to help others just to be kind. For the past ten years, he has frequented his favorite hangout spot, the Sunrise Restaurant, where he met many friends for coffee and meals.

Buddy was united in marriage to Marla Lee Day on November 27, 1981.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters Joann Day and Elizabeth Liz Knieriem.

Survivors include his wife Marla of Carbon; daughter Ashley Reagin and husband Alan of Cory, one son, Bobby Day and wife Stacie of Reelsville; grandchildren, Levi Penni, Gracie Reagin, Garrett Reagin and Eve Reagin; sisters Debi Jones (Tommy), Patty Escott; brother John Day (Lynn); sister in law, Mona Lee; nieces and nephews Travis Jones (Chris Marie), Melissa Ray (Mike), Steven Escott (Mandi), Michael Escott (Traiema), Bobby Knieriem (Sheri), Shelly Hann, Kristy Lutes (Doug), Eric Day (Racheal); and other extended family.

Services will be held Friday at 3:00pm at the Lawson-Miller Chapel with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating. Burial will follow at Harmony Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1-3. The family requests that those attending dress casually, just like he would have liked, and in honor of Raymond Buddy Day, pass on an act of kindness to someone.
