Evelyn Mae Parkins

Evelyn Mae Parkins, 90, of Brazil, Indiana, passed into glory on March 9, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Joplin, Missouri, surrounded by her husband and several members of four generations of her family,

 

Evelyn was born on March 23, 1932, in Brazil, Indiana, the daughter of Charley Douglas and Ethel Marie (Knott) McDonald. She graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1950. She was married to Mark Wayne Parkins on September 10,

1950, in the former EUB church on Forest Avenue. She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family, as well as loving her nieces and nephews and friends of her children like her own.

 

Evelyn was currently a member of Grace Chapel. She enjoyed crocheting and had crocheted 100 plus afghans, one for every member of her family and many friends. She especially enjoyed making afghans for all the new babies in the family. She was happiest when she was spending time with her family and playing with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great great grandchildren. She was a 72 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Brazil Chapter #80 and a life member of the VFW Post 1127 Auxiliary, and the American Legion Post 2 Auxiliary. There will be a walk-thru before the service, and Eastern Star rites following. Evelyn especially enjoyed visiting “shut-ins’ and loved spreading the Good News about Jesus Christ.

 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Charley and Ethel McDonald and her siblings: Roy “Ducky” McDonald, Charles “Chuck” McDonald, Jack A. McDonald, Dorothy Dressler, and Mary Ann Matherly.

 

Evelyn leaves behind her husband of 72 years, Mark Wayne Parkins; 5 children: Darla Scherb,

Jerry (Carol) Parkins, Julia Miller (Jim), Mark (Charlene) Parkins, and Ruth Ebersohl (Kevin); 14

grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren..

 

Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on March 13, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Service at 1:00 PM with Pastor Tim Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Chapel of Brazil, Indiana, or Maryland Community Church in Terre Haute, Indiana.
