Judy Jo Callender

OCTOBER 14, 1946 – MAY 28, 2023

Judy Jo Callender, 76, of Terre Haute passed away on May 28, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Judy was born in Greencastle on October 14, 1946, the daughter of Harry Smith and Effie (Tharp) Wright, and was a graduate of Fillmore High School.

Mrs. Callender was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Terre Haute, and was a former member of St. Paul the Apostle in Greencastle. She was a member of the Legal Secretary Guild and served her community in multiple rolls of leadership.

Early in her career, she worked for the State Office Building, and also worked with IBM. She was a Legal Secretary in Putnam County for 15 years. She lived to assist others, and she loved to serve her family through food. Always ready to give to others, she made everyone feel special and not even a stranger went without what they needed if she was around.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, John Callender, Terre Haute; her three children, Tammy Callender-Buckner, Greencastle, Troy Callender, Bedford, and Ted Callender, Terre Haute; nine grandchildren, Brooke Buckner, Carter Brown, Nick Nauman, Allyssa Nauman, Faith Callender, Lyndsay Callender, Joseph Callender, Kayden Callender and Devon Callender; a great-grandson Kaleb Callender; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant son, Todd Callender.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Mark O’Keefe officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at the church.
