Mark Cooper
October 22, 1948 - June 9, 2023
Mark Allen Cooper, 74, passed away June 9, 2023 at Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. Mark was born to the late Robert Ralph and Betty Jane (Estep) Cooper on October 22, 1948.
Mark graduated from Reelsville High School in 1967. After graduation he began working for The Banner Graphic and was a driver for Poe Oil. On March 17, 1979 Mark married the love of his life, Mary Jane Higgins. He worked for several years at Clay County Hospital, Great Dane, IBM, and eventually began working for the Clay County Senior Center where he retired in 2011. He loved working at the Senior Center and driving the ladies around and taking them on day trips.
Mark was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #274, Masonic Lodge #541, Putnam County Coin Club, Whitetails Unlimited and the Wabash Valley Scottish Rite. In the mid 80’s Mark and Darrell Felling created the Midwest Central Indiana Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Mark enjoyed hunting, wood turning, collecting coins, blacksmithing, and genealogy. One of the highlights of his life was traveling to Africa for a big game hunt with his friend Charles Hear.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Rod Cooper.
Mark is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Cooper, Godsons, Jonathan Sinders, and J.R. Riggs, one Goddaughter, Monica Hayes, three sisters-in-law, Donna Cooper, Judy Caress, and Sue Hart, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
