Daphne Sue Hatt Newport

Daphne Sue Hatt Newport, 72, of Bloomington and formerly of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at IU Health Hospice House with her family by her side. She was born on May 4, 1951 in Union City to Charles William and Barbara Jean (Simms) Hatt.

Daphne is survived by her sons: Tom Newport, Jr. and wife Karen of Jasonville and David Newport and wife Dawn of Terre Haute; brother, Dennis Hatt and wife Synda of Ellettsville; sister, Deb Pepple and husband Tom of Ft. Wayne; grandchildren, Mitchell Newport of Rochester, NY, Sarah Beth Newport of Terre Haute, and Jeremy Autterson of Terre Haute; great-grandchildren, Logan and Taylor Autterson; nephews, Jon Hatt of Ellettsville and Zack Pepple of Ft. Wayne; niece, Kali Stearns of Ft. Wayne; and numerous aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom Newport, Sr.; brother, Douglas Hatt; and nephew, Geoff Hatt.

Daphne earned her cosmetology degree and worked as a hairdresser for 35 years. She then went to work for 8 years at Bethesda Gardens as the Activity Director. Daphne was a member of Delta Theta Tau sorority, American Baptist Women, Newcomers Club, and Oregon Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing golf and played on a league at both Mark’s Par Three and Oak Ridge Golf Course. She also loved to play cards.

Daphne was full of spunk and had the gift of gab. She never met a stranger and could light up any room. She was funny, feisty, boisterous, and always made sure that people felt welcome.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A Delta Theta Tau Memorial Service will begin at 12:30 p.m. and a Celebration of Daphne’s Life will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Villanova officiating.
