Shirley Stevenson

Shirley Stevenson, 87, passed away June 11, 2023 with her family by her side. Shirley was born to the late Ancle G. and Ruby (Head) Stitzle on January 7, 1936 in Brazil.

Shirley graduated from Brazil High School in 1954. On August 22, 1954 Shirley married the love of her life, Earl Wayne Stevenson at Epworth Methodist Church. Earl preceded Shirley in death in 2014. She was active in the Girl Scouts and 4-H and later became a 4-H leader of the Van Buren Hustlers. Shirley was a member of Jobs Daughters and was the Honor Queen in 1954. She was a member of the Tri County Home Ec Club, Lena United Methodist Church, Epworth United Methodist Church, The United Methodists Women, and the Genealogy Society.

Shirley worked for Purdue Extension with the WIC program where she taught cooking and life skills to young parents. She also worked as a Weight Watchers instructor for many years where she made several lifelong friendships. The most important job that Shirley had was being a mother and a grandmother.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Kenneth Wayne Stevenson, one brother James G. Stitzle, as well as several extended family members.

Shirley is survived by her three sons, Michael R. Stevenson PhD, Alan G. Stevenson (Betsy), and James Earl Stevenson (Lisa), four grandchildren, Ethan Earl Stevenson, Dustin James Stevenson (Megan), Paige Olean Stevenson, and Dakota Wayne Stevenson (Tera), one great grandchild, Raya Stevenson, one brother, Henry Stitzle (Pat) as well as several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Thursday, June 15th from 4-8 P.M. at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Avenue in Brazil. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 A.M. Friends and family may visit from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
