Lester L. Martin

Lester L. Martin, 90, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away at home peacefully, on June 18, 2023.

 

Lester was born on July 7, 1932, in Clay County, Indiana the son of Amos and Sarah (Jones) Martin. He graduated from Van Buren High School with the class of 1950. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country for 4 years before being honorably discharged.

 

As a civilian Lester worked at Columbia Records, as a team leader, for 28 years. Later, he also worked for the Department of Corrections, in Rockville, from which he was medically retired.

 

In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, coaching basketball and baseball, and mushroom hunting.

 

He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a founding member of the CYL Baseball League and the Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department.

 

Lester is survived by his wife Marietta (Atkinson) Martin whom he married on May 22, 1954. He is also survived by his sons Kevin K. Martin (Deb) of Carbon and Daryl D. Martin (Amy) of Brazil; grandchildren: Mandy Shepard (Jaik), Kristopher Martin, Heather Stewart, Randy Martin (Jenny), Michael Martin (Leah), Tony Martin (Cassey), Jesse Martin (Sierra), and Chelsea Hollowell (Ryan); great-grandchildren: Damon, Callie, Ashlee, Laila, Maddie, Griffien, Kaden, Carlie, Sairene, Brendan, Caleb, Shiloh, Gaige, Phoebe, Rylan, Harper, and one on the way; great-great-grandchildren: Jaxxon and Barett; a brother Donald Martin (Doris) and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

 

In addition to his parents, Lester is preceded in death by his siblings: Elmer Martin, William Martin, David “Peanut” Martin, Richard Martin, Elizabeth Martin, and Hannah Green.

 

Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, In 47834, from 4:00 PM through 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 22, 2023. Services will follow at 7:00 PM with military rites.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church 413 S. Walnut St. Brazil, Indiana 47834 or a charity of your choice.
