Catharine Walton

Catharine Walton, 96, of Greencastle passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Mill Pond Health Campus.
Catharine was born in Greencastle on February 23, 1927, the daughter of George Born and Florence (Heritage) Manhart, She attended Greencastle High School, then went on to graduate from DePauw University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana State University.
Mrs. Walton was a member of Greencastle Presbyterian Church and Tri Kappa Sorority. She ran the Red Cross Learn to Swim Program for many years at Robe-Ann Park where she taught many children how to swim. Catharine was a teacher, and taught for many years at Bainbridge Elementary School. In addition, she operated a nursery school from her home for several years.
Survivors include her three children, Carolyn McKee, (husband-Mark), Ann Tislow, (Jeff), and Jenni Smith, (Scott), eight grandchildren, Catharine Simmerman, (Ryan), Rachel Smith, (Brad), Becky Fickes, (Brian), Megan Crimmins, (Will), Charlie Tislow, (Andrea), Brad Tislow, (Savannah), John McKee, (Kyla), and Phillip Tislow, (Erin); and eighteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 27 years, Ervan “Abe” Walton; and a brother, Joseph Manhart.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2023, at Greencastle Presbyterian Church with Pastor Wes Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday.
