Alexander "Alex" Murray Maxwell

Alexander (Alex) Murray Maxwell, 95, of Lafayette, Indiana passed away in his sleep on April 24, 2023.

Alex was born in Terre Haute, Indiana to Archie and Anne Murray Maxwell on May 6, 1927.

He attended Gerstmeyer High School and was drafted in May 1945 by the Army after his junior year. After completing his service in 1946, he returned to Terre Haute and completed his GED. While in the Army, he served in post WWII Paris and London as a member of the military police.

Alex retired from Bemis in Terre Haute in 1989, after dedicating 13 years there. Prior to that he worked many years at Sealtest and then Prairie Farms as a truck driver.

He is survived by his daughter, Jane Maxwell Weyrich of Cincinnati, Ohio; his son, Murray Maxwell of Lafayette; son-in-law Blake; daughter-in-law Donna Dye; and many nieces and nephews.

Alex’s hobbies included golf, bocce ball, watchmaking, car mechanics and home projects, and genealogy research. He enjoyed sports. His favorite teams included the Colts for football and the Pacers and Celtics for basketball. He was a longtime ISU Sycamore basketball season ticket holder.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Cooke; also his sisters, Mary Raikes and Laura Goodrich, his brother James Maxwell.

A graveside service, with Military Honors, will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 11:30am at Roselawn Memorial Park.
