Opal Stantz, 85, passed away August 23, 2023 at Shakamak Good Samaritan. She was born June 13, 1938 to Coy and Edna Bailey.

Opal was a 1956 graduate of Clay City High School. On April 6, 1957 she was married to the love of her life, Fred Stantz who preceded her in death on August 9, 2009. She loved to spend time outdoors and if someone was able to help her get on a horse, she enjoyed riding them. Opal also enjoyed collecting angels.

Opal is preceded in death by her husband Fred, her parents Coy and Edna, and her son Alan E. Stantz, her sister Deloris, and her husband David Megenhardt.

She is survived by her three children, Debbie Mendenhall (Gary Ingram), Tim Stantz, and Brad Stantz, a grandson Alan Stantz who she raised, grandchildren, Brian Shoup, Amber Mendenhall, Joseph and James Stantz, Jay Stantz, Tara Baker, Erica Elheimer, Will Stantz (Katrina), and Andrew Stantz. She also has 12 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, one step granddaughter, Amy Grigsby (Greg), three step great grandchildren Devin, Shantel (Michael) and D.J., two step great great grandchildren, Emma and Clyde.

A visitation will be held Saturday, September 2nd from 1-3 P.M. at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East 8th Street in Clay City. A funeral service will begin at 3 P.M.
