Greg Stephan

Gregory Mark Stephan was born Oct. 28, 1951 in Atlanta, Ga. He died Sept. 27, 2023, in Greencastle at age 71.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth R. Stephan and Jacqueline M. Stephan, and his sister, Katie Homrighausen.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy E. Stephan; brother Robert J. Stephan; children Eric T. Stephan (Skye), Erika L. Haynes (Thax), Alex D. Stephan and Holly A. McLauchlin (Mac); and grandchildren Sadie, Solomon, and Emeleia.

Greg grew up in Houston, Texas, and served in the U.S. Air Force. He matriculated and worked at the University of Texas at Austin.

He married the love of his life, Kathy, on Oct. 8, 1985 and welcomed her children, Erika, Alex, Holly and her foster son, Richard, with unconditional affection. Greg formally adopted Alex in 1986.

Greg led the family on adventures in his 1967 A100 Dodge Van Watson. Greg’s favorite trips were to Enchanted Rock near Fredericksburg, Texas, and a 30th wedding anniversary visit to Scotland with Kathy.

Greg worked at DePauw’s Center for Contemporary Media as Chief Engineer for more than 30 years. He mentored nephews, students and the A/V Club for decades.

Greg was involved in community theater and Greencastle’s public TV station. He took care of stray cats, even adopting a few over the years, like his favorite, Mouser, and his dog friend, Xena. Other interests included science fiction (especially Star Trek), classic films, detective and fantasy novels and classic rock music.

An informal celebration will be held in his honor on Friday, Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at DePauw’s PCCM, 609 S. Locust St., Greencastle,.

We will love him forever, and we will miss him terribly.
