Michael A. Tzouanakis II

Michael A. Tzouanakis II passed away at his home on Oct. 15, 2023.

He was born in Greencastle and was a graduate of Greencastle High School, where he was an accomplished athlete.

He graduated from Lincoln Technical Institute and began a lifelong career in motorsports. He worked for Vel’s Parnelli Jones Racing, Fletcher Racing, Team Penske, Simpson Racing and Santello Racing. He then worked with Bruce Penhall, world-champion speedway motorcycle racer and twice world champion. As he continued his racing career, he worked with Dan Drinan, Miniature Motorsports, Howard Racing, Rush Truck Centers and Marlatt Trailer Services.

Mike is survived by his sister, Stephanie (Scott) Gardner, and brother John (Melissa) Tzouanakis; nieces Lindsay (Zac) Reece and Bailey (Brian) Szubinski; nephews Will (fiancé Michelle) Gardner and Taylor Tzouanakis; and great-niece and -nephew Berkeley and Brody Szubinski.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Suzanne Tzouanakis.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mike to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or Tzouanakis Intermediate School.
