Julia J. Newgent

Julia J. Newgent was born in Greencastle on the warm day of Aug. 28, 1931. Dewey and Lillie Stultz brought their baby girl, Julia Jean, home to the farm where they lived in Morton.

She grew up with four other siblings, Joe, Jim, Katherine and George. They all worked on the farm, each having chores and enjoying farm life.

She attended and graduated from Bainbridge High School. After graduating high school she went to work in Greencastle, working as a phone operator. (You don’t hear those words anymore.)

She dated Dale Newgent in high school, and he soon proposed and became her husband.

Dad enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Jacksonville, Fla. Soon after Mom left the farm and moved to Florida to start a family of brats — I mean children — which are Mike, Cindy, Gary, Pam, Scott and Dale Jr. (Eddie). After Dad served in the Navy they eventually made their way to Florida.

Mom worked at Nolen’s Drug Store for many years in the fountain, serving up some yummy shakes, ice cream cones and sundaes and the occasional sandwich. From there she began working at the Florida Department of Transportation as office admin and a supply clerk. She retired after 20 years of service to enjoy life with family and friends.

We went on many, many trips to the mountains, trips to Disney and concerts with Mom and Dad. We all have the best memories of the BEST mom ever. If you have ever met her you would have called her Mom. She was everyone’s Mom. She had a shipload of grands and great-grands, I have lost count. She to the day still loved classic rock music, loving to kick up her heels and sing. Her favorite color was red and loved leopard print. She was always dressed very sharply as a lady would be. We all have the best memories with her and I’m sure there are many of you who also have great memories with her.

She has completed her journey on Earth and is on her journey to Heaven to be with Dad.

We will receive friends and family from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Clinton Falls Cemetery.
