John E. Wallace Sr., 68, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, following an extended illness.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1955, in Clinton to LeRoy Wallace and Bonnie Helton.

John worked for the Banner and News for many years.

He loved being around people, never met a stranger and was loved by many. John was an avid bowler, loved watching NASCAR and love to play bingo. John was also in the National Guard.

John is survived by his children, John Wallace Jr., Dawn Wallace, Josie Cox (husband Austin), Naomi Phillips, Michael Phillips (wife Danielle) and Nathan Phillips (wife Vivian); grandchildren Tamara, Trinity, Lillian, Jonathan, Ryan, Emalie and Damian; and also several great-grandchildren and several nephews. John is also survived by his best friend, Tammy Torrence Petrey, who loved him dearly. John is also survived by sisters Kathy Wallace and Penny Hill (husband Jim) and brothers Ron Wallace (wife Karen), Charlie Wallace (wife Lupe) and James Wallace (Annette).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Mike Wallace and Tim Wallace.
