Marian Campbell Ford Nelson

Marian Campbell Ford Nelson passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, residing at Hickory Creek at Sunset in Greencastle.

She was born March 15, 1925, in Dayton, Ohio, the only child of Walter Wood Campbell of Cherryfield, Maine, and Ruth Osborn Campbell (Keel), born in Hendricks County.

She lived with her maternal grandparents, Charles O. Osborn and Martha E. Fisher Osborn, in Hazelwood from the age of one year to seven-and-a-half years old, attending the first and second grades at the Hazelwood schoolhouse.

At the death of her grandmother in 1932, she lived with her parents in Flint, Mich., returning each summer to Indiana to be with her grandfather and relatives.

In a class of 1,000, in 1942 she graduated with honors as a pre-med student and earnws three letters in major sports from Flint Central High School. She returned to Greencastle in November 1942.

In addition to being a homemaker, she worked as a waitress and a bookkeeper, served as an at-large Putnam County councilor and was a property manager and a licensed medical laboratory assistant.

She is survived by Samuel Jack Butt of Linton, Camille Lynn Dills Bayless of Crawfordsville, John William (Bill) Nelson of Greencastle, Susan F. Bonney of Hollester, Mo., Cindy Pulliam of Lafayette, Kenneth Scott Nelson of Linden and Lisa Jane Nelson of Effingham, Ill. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Blaydes officiating. Burial will follow in Little Walnut Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
