Greencastle football weeks away from season opener, new turf field

GIANT fm Sports on WREB will be the home of Greencastle Tiger Cub football this season.

 

Greencastle finished 6-5 during the Covid-impacted 2020 season by winning the final three games of the regular season and shutting out Indianapolis Washington to open the sectional, 44-0.  The Tiger Cubs were eliminated in the next round by Tri-West. 

 

A 3-2 record in the Western Indiana Conference was good for a third place finish.

 

Head coach Mike Meyer has some holes to fill from graduation.  Senior quarterback Logan Carrington passed for nearly 1, 500 yards and completed 57 percent of his passes last season.  He threw for 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions while rushing for 653 yards and ten touchdowns.  The quarterback also played on the defensive side of the ball with 3 sacks and 36 total tackles.

 

Brach Carrington rushed for a team leading 966 yards and 17 touchdowns. 

 

Defensively, Brach led the team with 20 sacks, 93 total tackles, 28 were tackles for loss.  He played in the North-South All-Star game.

 

Senior Grant Pettit recorded 78 tackles with 17 behind the line of scrimmage.  He had 11 sacks.

 

Greencastle is on the road for the August 20 season opener vs Crawfordsville followed by a Week 2 road matchup at Northview.

 

The home opener is scheduled for September 3 with West Vigo.  Work continues to renovate the football field and surrounding track at Greencastle.
